Rinse Your Spools with Filtered Seawater

As one team member is making spore counts on the hemocytometer and determining the number of spools that can be seeded that day, another team member should be prepping spools for inoculation. The first step is to take the spools that have been soaking in distilled water and give them a rinse with chilled, filtered seawater. This will help the seed string absorb some salt water before the spores attempt to settle and also ensure that there is minimal residual fresh water that may harm the spores.

If you have goals of tracking spools from the hatchery to farm, now is also a good time to give each spool a unique number or ID. Simply use a sharpie to mark the inner rim of the spool.
