Plan Ahead

You only get one shot at harvest, so it is important to do as much up-front planning as possible. During the winter months, we strongly recommend making all logistical arrangements weeks, or even months before your kelp is ready to harvest. As you’re monitoring your crop’s growth on the farm, communicate any updates to your buyers, and continually be thinking about how you’ll ultimately get this crop out of the water.

The winter goes quickly. Use these months to prepare for the harvest season.
To Prepare for Harvest
  • Keep customers apprised of any changes to crop quantity or quality

  • Order harvest containers, packaging, and labels well in advance

  • Reserve additional boats or vehicles for harvest, if needed

  • Recruit for harvest labor

Head over to the Harvest Course for more details on these and other considerations.
