There are many ways to get gametophyte biomass on spools. Although painting gametophytes onto a spool with a brush is not that fast, it proves to be better than other methods, like spraying, because it is more consistent. 

Before painting the weighed biomass onto spools, you will need to grind the gametophytes in a tissue homogenizer. Refer to the Protocol for Grinding Gametophyte Biomass and the Culture Maintenance Lesson for more information.
