Seed spools

During outplanting, your goal is to give the juvenile kelp on your seed string the best shot at maturing into a healthy, full kelp blade. As the seed string is coming off of the spool, pay attention to two things:
-
Handle the seed gently. Minimize the time it’s exposed to the air, and try your best to keep the growline from rubbing against the boat or splashing hard back into the water.
-
Look for tight, evenly-spaced wraps of seed string on the growline that ideally settle into the weft of the line.
