Current
Look for a site that has enough current flow to bring in fresh nutrients, but not so much that it puts excessive drag force on your anchoring system. Ideally your site will have between 0.5 and 2 knots of flow at max ebb and flood.
A good way to measure current is to cut the engine of your boat on a calm day and watch how fast you’re moving at a given site. Do you notice that you’re slowly drifting relative to the shoreline? If you have a GPS or depth sounder on your boat, you might be able to use them to conduct a current reading.
