Check Your Permits

Double-check that you have all of your permits in place before your seed is ready. Some states, such as Alaska, require that farmers hold a special seed stock transport permit giving them the right to transport kelp seed spools from the hatchery to the farm site. You must apply for this permit several weeks in advance, and having it in hand is a requirement for the hatchery to release spools to the farmer. It’s a good idea to double-check your state regulations in advance of outplanting to make sure you have a green light to put seed on your farm.
