Seed Spools

A seed spool is the structure on which you grow your kelp.

A seed spool is a broad term meaning a piece of PVC piping that is cut to a desired length and wound tightly in string. The seed string is what the kelp will attach and grow on, and the spool is what supports it. You will need to purchase the piping, seed string, and possibly rubber bands to hold the string in place. We’ll talk more about preparing your seed spools and choosing twine in the course on Pre-season Preparation.
